Week 9 Reflection

  • What is most pressing for you as the end of your field studies draws near? Do you have a plan in place to manage those issues and move forward?

My most pressing thought was if I would have enough time to finish my project or not. At the start of the project, my supervisor and I decided to make a week by week plan of what I would like to accomplish over the 108 hours here. We had planned for me to create a Visibility Board and a SharePoint site. The SharePoint site would be second, if I had enough time. As days progressed, I felt like time was running out, so we had to push the SharePoint out of the picture. There were a few setbacks here and there because of my learning curve. I was doing my best to manage the Visibility Board. My plan, which was successful, was to create an exact to do list of the last-minute changes that needed to be made. For the four different processes that I created, I had to meet three checklists. One would be for checking the how-to documents, the second being checking the templates, and the last would be to time each process. I slowly started checking each thing off and by the end of this week I finished everything including training the employees the process.

  • For those transitioning from the role of intern to that of employee, what is it about the transition that leaves you feeling good? Not so good? What can be done to bring about the needed changes?

N/A

  • For those of you transitioning out the site when field studies is over, what do you expect to be most challenging and most manageable about that transition?

My most challenging situation was training the employees the processes for updating the visibility board, prior to leaving. I typed over 30 pages of detailed instructions for the team members so that I could go over the process with each of them. With typing that many pages, there were a few mistakes here and there so after each training session, I went back to my desk and made the necessary corrections. So, it was challenging going back and forth and editing every little thing. Regardless, I am thankful that I had an opportunity to go over each process because I was able to see how the document was written, but from a different perspective of a teammate. I could then make the applicable changes.

Surprisingly most manageable expectation would be transferring the responsibility of the visibility board over to the team. Leaving them after the training sessions this week, I am confident that they will be able to manage updating the board through what they learned this week and documents that I prepared for them. I organized all of the documents into folders and sections that easy to use and understand.
